What does the name Cap Cana mean?

The name of this small community comes from the French word “Cap”, which means “cape”, since we’re talking about an enclave that is part of a chain of capes known as “La Majagua”, located between Cabo San Rafael and Cabo Engaño. The other word, “Cana”, refers to the type of palm tree we find in Cap Cana, which coincides with the name of Punta Cana. 

But Cap Cana isn’t only known for the meaning of its name, but also for having the largest marina in the entire Caribbean, which is an exclusive luxury area that you’ll love. In fact, when this area started being designed, it was carried out thinking that it would become one of the most exclusive places in the world, thus its founders gave it the nickname of “The World’s Greatest Destination”.  

Without a doubt, this is just a hint of what’s to come, as the charm of Cap Cana not only lies in the meaning of its name, but in the magic of the plants and wildlife that live here, as well as its extensive beaches.

Accessing this Caribbean spot is simple, since if you’re planning to spend a few days in Punta Cana, you can first stop at Cap Cana. The Punta Cana airport is just fifteen minutes from this small location that’s worth visiting, the perfect way to start off your trip on the right foot.

What to do in Cap Cana 

If you’re planning to spend the day in the town of Cap Cana, we suggest any of the following plans in order to enjoy this destination to the fullest. 

First, we recommend starting the day with a boost of energy and some sport, which is why our recommendation is that you visit its most characteristic place, the Punta Espada golf course. This course is recognised as the best in the Caribbean and even in all of Mexico. Getting in a couple of swings in good company will ensure you get the best start to the day.

After practicing a bit of sport, our next tip is to explore its fine white sandy beaches with crystal clear waters to relax after a morning out on the green. In addition, you can also enjoy what’s known as the Great Ecological Trail, located only 15 km away and where you can observe different endemic species of plants and animals.

If what you’re after is to find dreamy hideaways, then your next stop should be the Blue Hole, a cenote that will steal your heart and that you’ll never forget. The Blue Hole is located in Scape Park and we can assure you’ll have a unique experience, discovering even more of the charm of Punta Cana. Also, after an impressive walk, you’ll be able to relax and cool off with a refreshing swim.

You also can explore Scape Park, an amusement park immersed in nature, that will offer you the chance to be in close contact with the natural environment in the area and its history. Getting to Scape Park from Cap Cana is easy, so it’s worth taking a day trip to explore this magical place.

Where to eat in Cap Cana

In Cap Cana you’ll find a variety of options to enjoy the area’s gastronomy and good atmosphere, with lots of great alternatives that offer meals in a relaxed atmosphere. 

First, one of the best known areas is in the famous “Sanctuary City”, which will offer you different gastronomic styles, including everything from Mexican food to Spanish or Italian food.

The area by the marina in Cap Cana is also a good choice, which will allow you to enjoy the wonderful views as you spend some quality time with your family or friends. 

On Playa Juanillo, one of the most famous beaches in Cap Cana, you’ll find Little John, a bohemian restaurant where you’ll have a magical evening. 

Last but not least, there is the area known as Eden Roc, a place where the culinary excellence of its restaurants will allow you to indulge your senses with a unique foodie experience. At Eden Roc you’ll find restaurants of many different styles.
